The idea of “translating” electronic dance music into an acoustic version was originally conceived in a collaboration between guitarists Tal Avraham and Oded Distelman, two talented musicians eager to bring FUN back into the sometimes sarcastic music industry. Sharing the same values and bringing a shining stage presence, singer Daniella Milo (aka DaniLu) joined the duo and together, they went into a recording studio. The result is a clean and current sound that falls seamlessly between acoustic folk and dance pop. Music blog Kultura (Poland) promises their performances are "full of energy, seductively charismatic, easily persuading the audience to party like crazy:  ’this is the music of the future‘ their vocalist sings in one of the band’s more hit-ready songs...and if it's true - there's no need to be worried about the future," with music filled with catchy guitar riffs and feel-good lyrics. Even though still very young, the band has already awoken a lot of attention, being labelled by the music blog Raash as "the happiest and most interesting thing to happen in music in 2015."

Itai Reznik (drums and sampler) & Omer Keinan (keyboards and synth) grew up together in Jerusalem, inspired by a variety of musical styles that shaped their current musical language. Omer explains: “Jerusalem is an amazing place. There are thousand ways how to live there, especially if you were born there. It’s the kind of a city that becomes a part of who you are - it has it’s language, it’s people, it’s vibe... I believe it reflects in our music a lot.”
While Omer was studying jazz, Itai went to Africa to research various rhythmical instruments such as Balafon and Djembe. The band has later expanded this aspect by engaging the Ethiopian singer Hewan as a permanent guest. She is complementing the fusion of electro, drum’n’base, trance and jazz with her R’n’B rhythms. Sounds intriguing, right?

Culinary Art

Gastronomy is one of the strongest lures of Jerusalem. There are even maps of Middle East, dividing the region by the spices used for falafel. Since its first year, the Days of Jerusalem have been presenting the Jerusalem cuisine at its best: traditional as well as contemporary recipes by Israeli and Palestinian chefs have been an indispensable part of the festival. This year, Jerusalem cuisine will be presented from a new angle – the focus will be on vegan and vegetarian dishes. Veganism is an important phenomenon of the Jerusalem gastro scene. After all, many of the local famous treats – such as hummus, sabih, and salads – are vegan.

Vegan as well as other recipes will be presented at the festival by Ilan Garousi, founder of the renowned Chakra and Satya restaurants, and his female colleague, the wonderful Palestinian chef Um Sami. Um Sami learned to cook from her husband who was well known for his knowledge of the secrets of gastronomy. In the weeks before the festival, Ilan and Um Sami worked together with the Prague known culinary destinations and they have prepared an array of great recipes for meals that will be cooked at the festival.
Um Sami will be together with Mama Coffee preparing stuffed vine leaves and her favorite Jerusalem pastries. Dirty Dog Food Truck, stationed in Tiskárna na Vzduchu, has the owner of Israeli origin so he will also adjust his street food to the Middle-Eastern atmosphere for the weekend. The neighboring BistRAW will also pick up this challenge, just being more radical and making everything raw. Finally, not the disappoint the meat-eaters either, the home catering Hamtam will prepare with Ilan entirely non-vegetarian Jerusalem meals, and La Bibich will prepare – what else then pastrami.

Film

The film section presents Jerusalem from different points of view: the Close to Home movie shows young girls playing parts they don’t feel like playing; and Kind Words talk about an identity crisis. Before each full-feature movie, there is also a short film that will surely surprise you.

title: The Kind Words + Short Movie
date: 25/5
time: 20:30 - 23:00
location: Tiskárna na Vzduchu
Three siblings are joined together by the death of their mother, and the revelation about the identity of their 'real' father, who to their shock and distress may be a Muslim. They set off on a quirky journey from Jerusalem through Paris, Marseilles and back in time to Algiers in the 60s, looking for their lost memories and answers. A bitter sweet story about the search for identity, longing for love, and the illusive line between lies and the truth.
Screening will be in original version with Czech and English subtitels.

date: 26/5
time: 21:00 - 23:10
location: Tiskárna na Vzduchu
The movie director Vardit Bilu always shows deep understanding for the main characters in her movies, especially for young girls. Her movie Fragile was introduced in her presence at FebioFest in Prague two years ago, to much acclaim. A bit older movie Close to Home was awarded at Berlin International Film Festival in 2006. It follows Smadar and Mirit, two common, fragile, barely adult girls, thrown together as they are assigned to a patrol in Jerusalem as part of their compulsory military service. They live their hopes, loves, quarrels and small rebellions, but political reality is unavoidable.
Screening will be in original version with Czech and English subtitels.

Bezalel is a famous Jerusalem art academy that was the alma mater for a row of outstanding young illustrators. At Days of Jerusalem, you can see a selection of their contemporary works that is co-curated by another important member of the Prague 7 community: Page Five, the publishing house and bookstore specializing in sales and production of art publications, author prints and art magazines, and the organizer of the annual festival of illustration Lustr. Some visitors of the festival might already know Noa Snir, a young illustrator that was on a lecture tour around the Czech Republic already two years ago. At Days of Jerusalem, Noa will present her new cycle Smeda Rmeda, inspired by the fairytale of the same name that has been passed on in the communities of Moroccan Jews for centuries by female storytellers. Noa will talk about her work, and later she will create a site-specific illustration together with illustrators from Page Five.
Tiskárna na Vzduchu will also be decorated by an outdoor exhibition of works by Noa Snir and other young illustrators.

Kuráž, a store with local design, newly moved to Letná. And at the same time, it is celebrating its fifth birthday! What could be a better opportunity to meet the new neighbors than Days of Jerusalem? Kuráž has thus joined a number of other enterprises from Prague 7 that help to form the festival program. Under the supervision of Kuráž, a curatorial selection of contemporary young Jerusalem designers - especially jewellers - was made, that will be presented at Days of Jerusalem in dialogue with the Czech ones. A pleasant festival novelty is that you can take the pieces home.
“Jerusalem design if fascinating in two ways for me: in some ways, it is different from the Czech one – for instance the pieces made in cooperation of Jewish and Arab women have a really strong story behind them. At the same time though, it is very similar to the Czech one – it has a strong sense of humor and it’s done with a wonderful workmanship,” says Michala, the founder of Kuráž. “Come to compare the two scenes by yourself. This might even be a beginning of a long-term cooperation between Kuráž and Jerusalem designers!”
One thing is for sure: both Kuráž and Days of Jerusalem are the ultimate meeting places at Prague 7.

Full of colorful details, it is a perfect material for illustration. Noa will talk about her work process – and illustrate it by creating a site-specific illustration.

title: Discussion: Women Empowerment – Jerusalem and Prague
date: 27/5
time: 17:00 - 18:00
location: Tiskárna na Vzduchu
The status of women in the context of Jerusalem is truly a multifarious topic: a very diverse communities, from the very traditional and patriarchal ones to the very liberal ones, ascribe a women different roles, often rather difficult ones. Days of Jerusalem will host also Ms. Widad Othman from Jerusalem municipality. She has a lot to say about this topic: she is responsible for 12 women’s clubs in East Jerusalem (each club has around 30 active members). The idea is to empower these women, who have a strong influence on their families,  to help them improve their self-esteem, and develop entrepreneurship using their skills, such as cooking, sewing, etc. Widad also has an interesting personal story - she got married very young, at the age of 17 and a half, and after raising her 3 children, at the age of 35, she began to study education and later got professionally engaged within women empowerment.
Widad will discuss the outlined topics with Silvie Lauder, a journalist from the Czech weekly Respekt, who focuses mostly on domestic politics, but is involved with women empowerment on a long-time basis. Come to compare both perspectives and see how cultural context influences the topic of the status of women.
The discussion will be in English.

date: 29/5
time: 12:00 - 12:45
location: Tiskárna na Vzduchu
Israeli dances are just as diverse as the people of Jerusalem – they merge dances of Jews from European diaspora, Yemen and other Arab countries, as well as elements of Arabic dances. They can be danced on many kinds of music from ethnic and traditional melodies to more contemporary music or even to today’s pop music. Dances have their place not only in school education, but also as an indispensable part of evening gettogethers when thousands join „harkadas“ – dance parties. Workshop will be lead by Ondřej Novák, who got acquanited with Israeli dances thoroughly during his year-long study in Jerusalem and is their long-time tutor.

Armenian quarter  is the smalles part of Jerusalem, but the one not to be missed. This is where the beautiful old churches and monasteries hide and where you find the unique ceramic pomegranates. A well-known part of Armenian culture are dances: they have a mystical reputation and in Central Europe, there are not many people who know how to perform them authentically, the least to teach them. However, Days of Jerusalem have the best tutor: Mrs. Anzeli Melkonjan who has been living in the Czech Republic for many years and is an experienced tutor of Armenian dances. She will most probably not teach you the dangerous sword dance within one our, but there is not a better opportunity to taste the basics of this genre than at the Days of Jerusalem.
